Awesome poker players

I am amazed by some of the poker players that are out there. A couple of weeks ago I read about this woman who had won a fairly big tournament while being in her ninth month.

That is nothing short of incredible. Maybe their motivation is the pregnancy. Like wanting to be able to provide for the child with money they win, or just too loose their anxiety by focusing on something else for a moment. What I have heard about pregnancy is that it makes you unbelievably tired. I could never play poker if I was tired.

Another really cool king of poker player is a man from California who was in a car crash and got blind from the horrible accident. His name is Jason Holbrook and he was only 21 at the time. Before this, he used to be a terrific poker player, but he lost his eye sight after the crash and was informed that he wouldn’t be able to see again. Instead of hanging his head for the rest of his life, he slowly started to fight this problem. He actually started playing again, showing the world that he hadn’t surrendered to his condition. He got help from a person whispering what cards he had and what the community cards were. He also whispered how the other players were betting, which of course is an important part of the game. However, he was not allowed to tell Holbrook what the other players were looking like (like, if they seemed concerned).

When the WSOP Main Event arrived Jason won $10 000 in it, through this way of playing!

He now says that he feels that his blindness is sometimes to his advantage, since it makes him so perceptive of other things. He has also developed a much better hearing.

There is also one guy name Phil “The poker brat” Hellmuth, who I am impressed by since he won the same competition at the age of 24. At that point he had won ten WSOP bracelets!

Today he has won like $5,000,000 from the WSOP alone and he has around $8.6 million in live tournament earnings. He is also very focused on his family life, which I think speak good of him. “Family always comes first”, he says, and I agree.
